How do gold star bonuses get awarded? I get triple stars but I don’t see the numbers climbing up. It’s very confusing without greater explanation

@Carmen638, there are 2 sets of gold stars. I know that sounds crazy, but let me try to explain.
When you are looking at an island, getting ready to choose what hand you are going to play, you’ll notice each hand has gold stars and red stars. The red stars you see here reset every Sunday night, so you can earn them all over again each week. The gold stars you see here are permanent. You can earn all gold stars on an island, and earn a master of that island badge. The gold stars here never reset.
Then, once you choose a hand, and play it, at the end of the game, you when it shows the results of the hand, you’ll earn 0 - 3 gold stars for that hand. You can actually see the stars fill in the slots at the top of the screen, under the level number. I call those hand stars, they are sort of temporary can be earned every time you replay the hand. These stars don’t count toward gold star bonuses.
To earn gold star bonuses, you need to go back to the island view, and look for a hand that doesn’t have all 3 gold stars already. Play that hand and do what ever you need to do to earn those gold stars. Gold stars are given for 3 categories - Win the hand, finish with time left on the timer, and complete 3 streaks. I sometimes use boosters to get gold or red stars. For instance, if you have already used up the allotted time, but want a time star, then when you are ready to clear the last card, buy a time booster (if available). That adds 30 seconds to your timer. Then hit that last card. You’ll get the red and gold stars for time on that hand.
If you are like me, and have earned all your permanent gold stars for all islands, then you’ll need to advance levels to earn new ones.
The island map makes it easy to see where you still have gold and red stars to earn. It says 54/108 earned or 24/108 in my sample picture.

How many cards do you have to clear in a row to complete a streak? As I’m trying to work out what I would need to do to complete three streaks for the third gold star. Thanks.

5 cards in a row is a streak. If you use the streak doubler, it’s 3 cards. Once you’ve done 3 streaks in the same game, you get the streak star. However, you do need to win the game to keep the streak star.
