Spoiled racoons!
While camping with friends in the Klamath Falls area of Oregon, one of the mischievous friends thought it would be fun to chum our tent while we were sitting around our campfire. I was getting annoyed while he was laughing and proceeding to throw more food around the campsite. I got the last laugh when he got up in the middle of the night and was scared of the all the red eyed raccoons waiting outside HIS tent! He wouldn’t leave his tent until daylight when they were gone.
I loved it and made fun of him the rest of the trip!
While riding my horse with a friend, I had to stop and make a pit stop. Unbeknownst to me, the log I chose to utilize for support had a hive underneath. Needless to say the residents were not pleased with my disruption. They were kind enough to let me finish before pouncing. I wound up running down the trail while they stung me all the way. I jumped in the crick and dove under water and removed my shirt. They continued to sting me under water even though my friend was trying to swat them off of me. Never ever disturb a downed log on a trail…!
I was 15 while camping with my family in northern Michigan in the mid 1970’s. It was dark and a storm was coming so my mom asked me to get the towels off the clothesline. I bent down to pick up what I thought was a white towel, but… IT WAS A SKUNK!! I narrowly missed the spray, but our tent got it! Made sleeping very difficult😂
While hiking to the top of a mountain to meet my hubby and a friend, I stepped out from behind a tree and saw a large mountain lion! I pulled my coat out to look big, yelled, “Go away, kitty!” and it (thankfully) took off. I headed back to the cabin (instead of continuing on alone) and had a great story for the kids.
I try to not interfere with wildlife, I generally just let them do their own thing. However, my mom has a menagerie that congregates in her backyard and a whole colony of squirrels each year. Well the squirrels LOVE peanuts so mom trained them to come to her for peanuts. They’re very gentle lol and sometimes do tricks or activities to get attention and of course extra peanuts
When I was 4 – so ages ago – we went camping to Rocky Mountain National Park. I remember waking up in the pitch black tent while my dad was beating on the canvas trying to scare off the squirrel or some other kind of varmint that was climbing on it outside. Quite a thing for a sleepy little kid.
Many years later camped at Yellowstone I got up just at dawn to fire up the stove and make coffee while my wife, daughters and pretty much everybody else in the campground was still asleep. That’s when a mama moose and twin calves strolled casually through within 20 feet of me. Delightful in the chilly peaceful morning.
I was attacked by Canadian goose had got of my truck and park to close to their nest it fly right at me and knocking me to the ground it landed was coming at me only think that saved me from being attacked more some people scared it was bruised for about a week on my chest and butt
As a young child I spent a few years in Kenya because my dad was in the army. The Scots Guards adopted 2 of the young lion cubs that were in the film Born Free. They were kept by a Regimental Sergeant Major & his family & while visiting one day I thought I would play with one of the cubs but it was eating & didn’t appreciate it, so it bit me. We often visited Nairobi game park and just inside the main gate they had an ‘orphanage’ where young animals were cared for. Some were kept there in adulthood and some were released back into the reserve or moved somewhere else. Having been able to hold the lion cubs, I was mostly unafraid of big cats and on one of our last visits to the game park orphanage, my mum and one of the park rangers found me crouching next to a cage with my arm through the fence (I was 7 years old) scratching a young male lion behind the ear. They couldn’t shout at me in case it startled the lion, so the ranger had to approach quietly and try to persuade me to stop gently and to slowly remove my arm and move away. I did reluctantly and only got told off by the ranger.
We were camping years ago where the raccoons were rather crafty. They went under our screen tent and opened the cooler and ate all the meat. We had to buy more meat and ended up locking the coolers in the van when we weren’t around. Another night later the same trip, they got in again and were noshing on the dog’s food. Pesky buggers!
When I was a teenager we went camping with a group of families. As all the kids were roasting hot dogs over a campfire one of the hotdogs fell to the ground. We weren’t really paying attention and a group of three skunks came to explore. One of them sat directly on my foot to eat the hotdog. Everyone just stood still until they finished and wandered away. We joked about it for years.
When i was a kid, one time when we were camping at a campground, we came back from the river to find a young bear munching on all our foods. That bear was smart enough to know how to open the “pantry” at each campsite. From then on we stored the foodstuffs in the car!
Does a lizard count? I mean they’re technically wild animals right? Ok so here’s what happened…One night a few years back I was relaxing out on my back patio in my night gown lol when all of a sudden, my cat came running across the yard toward me chasing something lightening fast! Next thing I knew this unknown creature landed on my neck & scurried down inside my night gown!!! I let out the loudest scream that most certainly woke up half the neighborhood as I frantically ripped off my nightgown to get whatever it was out!!! As I did so (and as I was now standing there outside in the buff), I discovered that it was a lizard! YUCK!!! Needless to say, I was NOT one bit pleased with my cat! So there ya have it.
How about a Crow? Every day that my sister’s and I would walk to school an old crow would torment us. He would swoop down and peck at our hair and like try to attack us. We would try to shoo him away from one sister and he would go after the next it took us about 2 weeks of this before we got smart and came up with a game plan and started making a trail behind us of bread chunks. The whole time he was attacking us he was only wanting out sack lunches. Lol. Bread worked after that he would just set on his tree limb and wait for us to walk out the door with the bread then he would walk behind us all the way to school eating his bread. He would never mess with us on the way home from school because we never had food
My husband and I were on a cruise a couple of years ago, and were on an excursion in Gibraltar. I was leaning up against a handrail and felt something grab my arm. I turned around and it was a small Barbary Ape that lives wild on the island. It really freaked me out!
SO a couple yrs ago I was walking around my garden fence checking it when I came upon a porcupine just chillin there. I’ve never seen one wild in my area before. I didn’t dare touch or engage him or her but we took pics. Quite the surprise encounter for me. Never saw one prior or since that night.
Hubby walked our dog. She stuck her nose under the bushes, heard a growl, tail went between her legs and dragged my husband out of there. Out came a Black Bear. Home they went. Yep Bear followed them home and preceded to bend our steel pole which held our bird feeder. He sat down and had himself a nice dinner. We watched from the front window. He bent that steel pole like it was made from a twig.
On your Facebook page it says 25K coins 10 free plays and Five wilds? My husband & I were staying at Dingerville RV Park in Oroville, Ca. I took my beloved dog for a early am walk to beat the heat… we were chased back to our spot by what I think was a rabid skunk my poor dog could hardly keep up with me
SNAKES!! My cousins and I were going horseback riding and we all piled into my aunt’s Lincoln but one cousin, myself and the saddles. The trunk wouldn’t close so we rode on the front of the trunk to stabilize it. My aunt rode over a cottonmouth
and it landed in my lap! Luckily, it was dead.
